NOTICE! Summer Weather is Here! Don't Let Your Melts Get Ruined!

It's getting hot out! Make sure someone is home to get your package so that your melts are NOT ruined by the hot sun! If they do melt a little, they are fine. Put the entire package in the fridge for about 30 minutes and you will not have a huge melty mess to open up! I put a sticker on ALL pages asking the post office to PLEASE not leave packages in the sun, but I CANNOT be responsible if that happens. Please get them inside as soon as possible!

Earth Day Repurpose/Reuse Idea #2

Clay pots destined for the garbage heap, turned into a colorful flower-pot garden!


How I did it:

I had a motley collection of clay pots, in different sizes, some had been painted previously and were peeling (or just ugly!), some were stained, and all of them were better suited to going in the garbage than having flowers planted in them!

So instead of throwing them away, I used a little elbow grease, spray paint, and some inexpensive colorful petunias to give them new life! Now they will have a home in a group in front of my house giving my front yard some much needed color! And it cost about $25, took just a couple of hours to clean, paint and repot the plants and NO WEEDING NEEDED!

Repurposed old clay flower pots! A definitely Earth Day win!

Earth Day Repurpose/Reuse Idea #1

With Earth Day coming up, I have been thinking about things that can be "REPURPOSED" instead of "RECYCLED" and I have come up with some things on my own, PLUS will be looking around the internet for the most interested "green" projects I can find.

So during the month of April, I will be making blog posts along these lines! Be sure to check out the posts to find some great ideas for turning things you would normally throw out into all new things with real purpose!

And so we have Earth Day Repurpose Idea #1:

Need new cushions for your outdoor furniture? Are your bed pillows getting flat? Repurpose those bed pillows into lawn furniture cushions! You can also use them on a porch swing! Don't have flat bed pillows? What about throw pillows that are stained or needing replaced? Don't have any of those things? Well I'll bet your neighborhood thrift store does! Bed pillows, throw pillows, all kinds of pillows. You can also use rolled or folded blankets, sleeping bags, bedspreads as stuffing!

I know, what about them getting wet? Well I suggest instead of covering them with fabric, you cover them with cheap vinyl tablecloths (that part of the idea came from Two Women and a Hoe)! Get them at your local dollar store or again, thrift store! The colors don't really matter. Mix and match or use the plain red and white checkered to give them a summery picnic feeling!

If you can't sew or don't have a sewing machine, use a good sturdy needle and some nylon thread and sew them by hand. If you're worried about making a straight line of stitching, use a yard stick and draw lines. You will be sewing them inside out, so you can use a pen, draw the line, and sew along that using a regular straight stitch. A backstitch will make it even more sturdy stitching. A quick google of "how to do a backstitch" will show you the way! Then you'll have no worries about them getting wet!

An inexpensive way to make some interesting and eclectic outdoor cushions, and a great way to reuse, and repurpose old pillows, blankets and the like! I'd love to see photos if you do any of these!
